Welcome to Yorktown

Along with Jamestown and Williamsburg, Yorktown is part of Virginia’s historic triangle which hosts some of America’s most important historic sites. Situated between the James and York Rivers and Chesapeake Bay, the city is surrounded by water. Its central location offers easy access to Norfolk, Annapolis and Washington D.C.

Yorktown weather fluctuates with daytime temperatures around 50º F and nighttime lows of 25-20º F  in the winter and summer highs of 85-90º F.

Yorktown and the surrounding areas offer military families a variety of interesting things to see and do.   Popular attractions include the site of the first permanent English settlement in North America at Historic Jamestown, the revolutionary riverfront at Yorktown where American won its independence, and Colonial Williamsburg.  Others items of interest  include the Yorktown Victory Center, historic Sherwood Forest Plantation, and the Berkeley Plantation— the site of the first official Thanksgiving in 1619.

Outdoor activities include everything from swimming, crabbing, canoeing or kayaking, mountain biking, and wildlife watching at many parks along the beach and river.  President’s Park features giant busts of the U.S. presidents and the Caledon Natural Area is summer home to one of the largest bald eagle habitats on the East Coast.

Family attractions abound with Go-Karts Plus, Jumping Joey’s Fun Center, Busch Garden’s, Water Country USA water park, and Ripley’s Believe It or Not Museum and 4-D Theater. The city also boasts a microbrewery, winery, golf courses and plenty of family-friendly dining and shopping.
