Located in Virginia Beach, Oceana is part of the Hampton Roads area of Virginia, just south of Norfolk. The area’s mild four-season climate means year round outdoor recreation, with average yearly high temperatures in the 60’s, and average lows in the 50’s. Summers can be hot and humid with an average yearly rainfall that can exceed 47 inches.

A classic beach town, Virginia Beach itself features miles of beautiful beaches, a three-mile long oceanfront boardwalk, a host of state parks including Mount Trashmore Park and the Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge, and historic sites such as Cape Henry— the site of the first landing of English colonists bound for Jamestown, as well as the Adam Thouroughgood House—one of the oldest surviving colonial homes in Virginia.
Nearby Norfolk offers such attractions as the battleship U.S.S. Wisconsin and Nauticus—a National Maritime Center with an interactive science and technology focus, and the Mariners' Museum in Newport News.
Other area must-sees are the Chrysler Museum, Norfolk Botanical Gardens and the Virginia Zoological Park, Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center, and the Children's Museum of Virginia—the state's largest interactive children's museum and home of the Lancaster Train Collection.
