Features and Amenities

The Ben Moreell Community is close to several parks and beaches. Lafayette Park is the most diverse with two basketball courts, four tennis courts, picnic shelters, a ball field, a boat ramp, scenic pathways. The park borders on the Virginia Zoological Park and the Ernie Morgan Environmental Action Center.

Community Center

The Ben Moreell Community Center features three ASYMCA classrooms and a large community room that holds up to 100 people. Residents can host private functions in the community room at no charge. To hold the room, we require a security deposit of $150. This is also to ensure that no damage has occurred after the event. The center is available from Monday thru Friday from 5 p.m. to midnight. Residents can reserve by calling the Naval Station District Office at 757.416.7220

Exchange

The NEX and Commissary are located off base, approximately two miles from the community. Directions are as follows: Make a left onto Helmick Street out of the Ben Moreell Community, proceed to Hampton Blvd. and turn right. Continue one mile until you see the Pass and I.D. Office on your right, and make a right. Follow ½ mile. The NEX and Commissary will be on your left. 1560 Mall Drive, Naval Station Norfolk,VA 23511

Swimming Pool

A swimming pool is less than 1 mile away located in the Norwich Manor Commmunity. Norwich Manor has a community center with a lap pool that features zero-grade entry, perfect for small children. The pool is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day and from 8am - 8pm. The pool and community center is available to all residents of Ben Morrell, Castle Acres, JFSC, Norwich Manor and Queens Way.

Playgrounds

There are 9 playgrounds located in the Ben Moreell Community. Playground areas may have activity climbers, spring animals, swings and slides. With so many playgrounds, there is bound to be one located near your new home.

Physical Fitness Trail

A physical fitness trail with 4 different stations is located within the Ben Moreell Community. Each station will test your level of fitness with various strength training exercises.

Gym

Naval Station Norfolk has several large gymnasium complexes on base. The closest facility is the NSN Gynasium located on Gilbert Street, Bldg. N-24 tel. 757-444-2276
