Naval Station Norfolk occupies approximately 3,400 acres of Hampton Roads real estate in a peninsula known as Sewells Point. The city boasts over 300 years of maritime and naval heritage, and today  is the world's largest Naval Station. It is also the homeport to a wide variety of naval vessels, including aircraft carriers, cruisers, destroyers, large amphibious ships and submarines.

A very charming port city located adjacent to the Chesapeake Bay, Norfolk enjoys a temperate mid-Atlantic climate with average yearly high temperatures in the 60’s and average lows in the 50’s. The city sees approximately 237 days of sunshine—or about 65 percent of days filled with clear skies.

Norfolk offers a host of attractions for military families to enjoy such as the battleship U.S.S. Wisconsin—a salute to the city's longstanding relationship with the Navy, and Nauticus, now a National Maritime Center with an interactive science and technology focus, and the Mariners' Museum in Newport News, which houses one of the most extensive maritime collections in the world.

In addition, Norfolk's downtown waterfront on the banks of the Elizabeth River makes for a pleasure-filled walk, and its Norfolk Waterside Marketplace is filled with shops and dining opportunities. Other treasures include the Chrysler Museum, Norfolk Botanical Gardens, the Virginia Zoological Park, the Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center, and the Children's Museum of Virginia, just across the river in Portsmouth. 

Nearby Virginia Beach features miles of beaches, a three-mile long oceanfront boardwalk, a host of state parks, including the Mount Trashmore Park and the Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge, and historic sites such as Cape Henry— the site of the first landing of English colonists bound for Jamestown, as well as the Adam Thouroughgood House—one of the oldest surviving colonial homes in Virginia.
